Thanks to an incredibly bold show of support for our amazing students, we raised over $1.2 MILLION – our most successful night ever. This year we honored the young women and men making a difference on our campuses and throughout our communities: our 10,000 Degrees Fellows. These outstanding leaders embody our mission and are integral to helping our students reach their college goals. They, like all of our alumni, are creating a more just and equitable world.

10,000 Degrees Scholar, Ismail Azam, gave the keynote address and 10,000 Degrees Alum, Sindy Hernandez was awarded the One Degree of Change Award.

Changemakers Events

In 2018, we held inaugural Changemakers events in San Francisco and in Sonoma County. These evenings celebrated the transformative power of passionate community partners and the students we serve.

In October of 2018, we held the inaugural Sonoma County Changemakers Dinner at Prelude Restaurant, Green Music Center on the Sonoma State University campus. The evening was an intimate gathering of changemakers — those who support our work and the students that we serve. We honored Dr. Judy Sakaki as the first recipient of the Sonoma County Changemakers Award. This annual event supports college success programs throughout Sonoma County.

“As a first-generation college graduate herself, Dr. Sakaki has devoted her entire career to issues of inclusion, educational opportunities and achievement for all students.” – Kim Mazzuca

In September of 2018, we held the inaugural San Francisco Changemakers Dinner in The Green Room at the San Francisco War Memorial. The evening was a celebration of the transformative power of passionate community partners and the students we serve. We honored Mary Wolfe as the first recipient of the San Francisco Changemakers Award. This annual event supports the expansion of our college success support to thousands more students from low-income backgrounds throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.

“As a child of teachers, I grew up knowing that education was important, and I saw firsthand the opportunities that open up for a student when someone believes in them. I can think of no greater imperative than helping students from low-income backgrounds get to and through college.”
